Interview with April Coble
AC: You've been married for nearly a year! How is married life?
BW: Yes… 11 months now! So far it has been great!
AC: And what is it like being married to a pro jump skier?
BW: Being married to a pro jumper… well, we either spend a lot of time together or we are apart in different counties. With Pro events, world cup stops and competing at international events for our country we definitely have a crazy schedule. While some of the tournaments have both slalom and jump events there are a few that have us traveling in different directions. This year Ryan was away competing for 5 weeks. He traveled to London, Korea, and Ukraine for the world cup tour.
AC: Getting married, building a new house, skiing on the pro tour, doing clinics...how do you do it all?
BW: The last couple of years have been so exciting and extremely busy. Ryan and I run a ski school during the summer months in Canada. We coach the Jr. Alberta and Saskatchewan teams. Ryan and I got engaged in December 2008 and decided we wanted a winter wedding. We picked the date and I bought my dress and other than that I waited until after the summer to start planning our wedding. Canada hosted the 2009 World Championships and I did not want to be distracted picking out flowers, and center pieces. Haha I waited and planned my wedding in just a few months. In July we started building our house! Wow! I had no idea how many decisions that needed to be made. Our move in date is Dec. 21st 2010. Just in time for Christmas!
AC: What is your favorite thing to do when you're not skiing?
BW Shopping and Traveling! I work for Expedia Cruiseship Centers so I am also researching where the hot new vacation spots are to send my clients. I really want to check out Marriott Renaissance Aruba Resort! I Love travel, and would love to help anyone with cutting travel costs, finding the right place to go or stay, or plan their dream vacation!
AC: What were your favorite memories of collegiate skiing?
BW: Traveling with the team!! Going to tournament where we all cram into a 12 passenger van and drive for 10 hours. So many hilarious stories! My favorite nationals were in 2007 in California. Our team (ULM) rocked! Not only did we win…but we all were such great friends!
AC: How long have you been pro skiing and do you have any post-skiing career plans?
BW: I started competing on the Pro Tour in 2006. My post-skiing plans? I’m just getting started. Hehe
AC: What is the most rewarding experience you have had, and what made it so?
BW: Running my first 38off at the 2009 worlds!! It was such a huge accomplishment for me! I knew I could do it….but to run it at worlds in my home country in front of my family was awesome!
AC: What would you attempt, if you knew you could not fail?
BW: Fly
AC: What is the most embarrassing moment of your life?
BW: Geezzz this is 1 of many. When I was 14 I almost knocked myself out when I walked into a parked car. It was huge van and I didn’t see the mirror.
AC: Tell us something we don't know about you.
BW: I have a Bengal cat named Zumi
AC: When are you and Ryan going to have babies? HaHaHa.......
BW: Ryan and I defiantly want kids…BUT not any time soon. When we do… I am keeping my fingers crossed for twin girls!!
