BRIAN ROBBINS

Bio
I’ve grown up in the sport of showskiing watching Zane Schwenk trying crazy stuff like the first ever double fronts or back-halfs off the ramp when the freestyle jump scene was going. I’ve been a part of several pro ski shows and traveled the world performing in them. I started riding the wakeskis about a year ago and am pumped about the enthusiasm HO is bringing to this new sport. I want to spend this year trying to get more people riding wakeskis and to keep pushing the level of riding further.

Q & A

What’s up with Wakeskiing?

Wakeskiing is definitely one of the most exciting things going on in water-sports right now. Not that it is the most popular thing; but that it is growing and that it is legit. It seems like every time I head out to ride there are real opportunities to innovate and land new stuff. It’s kinda funny… the weird looks I get from people when I show up with my skis, but then the next thing you know, they want to try them out.

The Cable seems to be going off, why all the progression there?

The cable just seems to be the best spot to get tons of hits on a variety of obstacles. It would be just as cool behind the boat, but the cable parks put the sliders all in one spot, and hitting obstacles is where it’s at right now.

How’s your wake riding?

Not nearly as strong as the other guys on the team, I have a few inverts and some other stuff I hope to land this year. I’d like to get a chance to spend some more time on the wake in 2010.

The first competition went down, The Wakeski Open, how was that experience?

It was really cool to get together with some other “fruit-booters” and shred. We took O-dub over for the couple days leading up to that comp. I think we kind of surprised some people (including ourselves) with the strong level of riding and variety of hammers that everyone brought. “The Diesel” (Buechler) was on fire.

What’s something everyone should know about Wakeskiing?

Don’t be scared of what people may think about you riding something other than a board. I have been wakeboarding, waterskiing, barefooting, etc. for like 20 years and this is easily the most fun I have had. Why not be on the forefront of it?

What’s something everyone should know about you?

I graduated from UF and love watching Gator Football!
